WPFW’s Summer Membership Drive August 2–15
For 49 years, WPFW has held a unique place in our community: a space where music and message meet, where voices too often marginalized find sound, and where radical imagination becomes radio. From August 3 through 16, we hold that space again — for you.
This pledge drive is more than fundraising. This year’s theme, Reimagining Black Liberation Through Our Collective Humanity, honors Black August and centers the work of transformation, care, and resistance. We dedicate this drive to our recent ancestor, Denise Oliver-Velez — WPFW’s first Program Director, a Young Lord and Black Panther, a scholar, artist, and revolutionary. Denise helped shape a station that speaks truth, uplifts community wisdom, and refuses to separate music from movement.
Why your support matters
Independence: WPFW’s editorial freedom depends on listener support. Your gifts keep programming grassroots, uncompromised, and accountable to the people we serve.
Legacy: Contributions help sustain Denise’s vision and the many organizers, artists, and journalists who built and nurture this unapologetically emancipatory, people-centered media.
Reach: Donations keep our airwaves alive — producing culturally rich music, community news, critical analysis, and public affairs programming that mainstream outlets ignore.
Community investment: Supporting WPFW is an investment in local arts, civic engagement, mutual aid, and movements for justice that rely on our platform.
What we’re offering during the drive
Special programming honoring Black August, Denise Oliver-Velez, and the broad traditions of Black resistance and liberation.
Curated music and conversations that connect history, culture, and strategy — reflecting the station’s commitment to “music AND message.”
Member benefits including on-air recognition, limited-edition premiums, and invitations to special events and community forums.
How you can give
Become a sustaining member: Monthly gifts provide steady support so we can plan, produce, and expand programming year-round.
Make a one-time contribution: Every dollar helps keep the lights on and the air clear.
Gift a membership: Introduce a friend to WPFW and strengthen our listener base.
Be part of a station that honors its ancestors by creating the future. During August 2–15, stand with WPFW to Reimagine Black Liberation Through Our Collective Humanity. Your pledge keeps our independence alive, centers marginalized voices, and ensures that for another 49 years — and beyond — WPFW will be here: music in service of movement.
Thank you for keeping community radio possible.
