Planned Giving

Leave a lasting legacy with a planned gift to WPFW. Planned giving—through wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, or gifts of appreciated assets—provides a powerful way to support independent, community-focused radio for generations.

Your planned gift sustains in-depth news, arts, and civic programming, helps train emerging broadcasters, and keeps WPFW free from commercial influence. Planned gifts can also offer tax advantages and income benefits for you and your loved ones.

Thank you for considering a gift that keeps community voices on the air long into the future.

We work with donors and their financial advisors to structure gifts that achieve personal estate goals while maximizing impact for the station. All planned gift conversations are confidential, with no obligation.

Naming WPFW in Your Will

Your will affirms, honors, and protects what matters most to you. Through a specific bequest, you can name a particular dollar amount, or through a residuary bequest, you can give all or part of what is remaining after payment of debts, expenses, and specific bequests. If you would like to make such a gift to WPFW, your attorney may wish to include language similar to the following:

"I give, devise, and bequeath to WPFW 89.3, a licensed radio station under Pacifica Foundation, or its successor, now or formerly at 1500 Eckington Pl, NE, Washington, DC 20002, a gift of ($_____ or _____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate), to be used for its general purposes."

Why Listeners Choose QCDs

A QCD keeps the donated amount out of your taxable income, which can be helpful whether or not you itemize deductions. Many supporters use QCDs to meet their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)  while keeping community radio strong.

How to Make a QCD to 89.3

Tell your IRA custodian you want to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to WPFW 89.3FM. Provide them with:

  • Our legal name: WPFW – Pacifica Foundation

  • Our mailing address: PO Box 426022 Washington, DC 20042(changing soon)

  • Our tax identification number (EIN): 94-1347046

Ask your custodian to include your name with the distribution so we can thank you properly.

Support WPFW Through Your IRA

If you’re age 70½ or older, you can make a special kind of gift to WPFW directly from your IRA. It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution, and it allows you to support the station while reducing your taxable income.

How QCDs Work in 2026

  • You must be 70½ or older.

  • The gift must come straight from your IRA custodian to WPFW.

  • You can give up to $111,000 in 2026.

  • If you’re married and each spouse has an IRA, you can give up to $222,000 combined.

  • Your QCD can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution.

  • QCDs cannot go to donor‑advised funds or private foundations.

  • You cannot receive anything in return for the gift—no thank you gifts.

Give back to community radio with stock — it’s smart, tax-efficient, and helps WPFW 89.3FM keep powerful music and social-justice voices on the air.

Why donate stock

  • You may avoid capital gains tax on appreciated securities and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value.

  • Large impact: one stock gift can underwrite programs, support local artists, and sustain news and public affairs.

  • Simple and secure: transfers are handled electronically through your broker.

There are other planned giving options that can provide you with payments for the rest of your life, with the remaining funds passing to WPFW. These gift options include charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and pooled income fund donations.
