WPFW 89.3 FM — Jazz and Justice Radio — is owned and operated by Pacifica Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. This policy explains what we collect when you visit our website, join our email list, or make a donation, and what we do with it.

The short version:

• We do not sell your personal information.

• We do not rent, trade, or exchange our donor and member lists with anyone — not other nonprofits, not political campaigns, not list brokers.

• You can leave our email and/or SMS (text message) list at any time, and you can ask us what we have about you, correct it, or delete it.

• We collect the minimum we need to process your gift, send you what you asked for, and keep the website working.

WHAT WE COLLECT

When you donate or become a member: your name, mailing address, email address, phone number if you provide it, and the amount, date, and type of your gift, along with any note or dedication you include.

When you join our email list: your email address, and your name and ZIP code if you choose to give them.

When you contact us, volunteer, or sign up for an event: whatever you choose to tell us on that form or in your message.

Automatically, when you visit: your IP address and general location, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, and how you found us. If you listen to our stream, our streaming provider records technical data such as how long you listened and what device you used. We use this to count listeners and fix audio problems. We do not build individual listening profiles or connect stream data to donor records.

We do not collect Social Security numbers, precise location, or information about your health, religion, immigration status, or political affiliation.

HOW WE USE IT

To process your donation and send your receipt, maintain your membership and renewal notices, send the newsletter and appeals you signed up for, answer your questions, manage volunteers and programmers, understand how many people use our site and stream, report in aggregate to our Local Station Board and auditors, and meet our legal, tax, and FCC obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising profiles, and we do not run behavioral advertising on this site.

OUR DONOR AND MEMBER LIST POLICY

WPFW does not sell, rent, trade, or exchange our donor or member lists with any other organization. There is no opt-in for this, because we do not do it at all.

Vendors who work on our behalf — a payment processor, a mail house printing renewal notices — receive only what they need for that specific job, are barred by contract from using it for anything else, and must return or destroy it when the work is done.

We may thank donors on air, in the newsletter, or at station events. We never state your donation amount publicly. If you would rather not be acknowledged at all, tell us and we will note it on your record.

WHO ELSE SEES IT

Service providers who run our website, process payments, send our email, host our stream, and maintain our donor database. They are contractually required to keep it confidential and use it only for the work they do for us.

Pacifica Foundation, Inc. WPFW is a station of Pacifica Foundation, not a separate legal entity. Donor and membership records live in Pacifica's systems and are available to authorized national office staff for accounting, audit, database administration, and legal compliance. Pacifica is bound by the same commitments in this policy.

When the law requires it — for example, a subpoena, court order, or lawful request from the FCC or IRS. Where we are permitted to, we will tell you first.

To protect people, when we believe in good faith it is necessary to prevent harm or investigate fraud.

COOKIES

We use cookies that make the site work (keeping you logged in, holding items in a donation form, basic security), cookies that count visits in aggregate, and cookies that remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not allow third-party ad networks to track visitors here.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though blocking the necessary ones may break parts of the site, including the donation form. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it.

EMAIL

If you are on our list, you may receive the newsletter, program updates, pledge drive appeals, renewal notices, and event invitations. To unsubscribe, click the link at the bottom of any email, or write to us. We process unsubscribes within ten business days.

If you have an active donation or membership, we will still send you receipts and notices about your payment, because you need them.

TEXT MESSAGES

You will only receive text messages from WPFW 89.3 if you ask for them — by giving us your mobile number on a form that says you are opting in, by texting a keyword to our number, or by checking the text-message box on a donation form.

• What you will get: pledge drive reminders, event alerts, renewal notices, and occasional station news.

• How often: message frequency varies.

• Cost: message and data rates may apply.

• To stop: reply STOP to any message and we will stop. Reply HELP, email info@wpfw.org, or call 202-588-0999 for help.

• Consent is never a condition. You do not have to agree to texts to donate, become a member, or receive anything else from WPFW.

We do not share your mobile number or your text-message consent with anyone. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text message opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party for any purpose. The one exception is the messaging provider that delivers the messages for us, which is contractually prohibited from using your number for anything other than sending you the messages you asked for.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Donation and membership records for at least seven years, as required for tax and audit purposes. Email list records until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so you are not accidentally added back. Website logs for no more than 26 months. Volunteer and programmer records for the length of your involvement plus three years.

YOUR RIGHTS

Some state privacy laws exempt nonprofits and some do not. Rather than sort listeners by ZIP code, WPFW extends these rights to everyone, in every state:

• Know and access what personal information we hold about you

• Correct anything that is wrong or out of date

• Delete your personal information

• Opt out of our email, mail, SMS (text messages), and phone solicitations

• Opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, and profiling — we do none of these, but the right stands

• No retaliation. We will never change how we treat you because you asked

To make a request, email info@wpfw.org or write to the address below with your name and the contact information we would have on file. We will confirm within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why.

We may need to keep some records even after a deletion request — most often donation records required for tax and audit purposes, and suppression records that keep you off our mailing lists. If we cannot delete something, we will tell you what we kept and why.

If we deny your request, we will explain why and you may appeal by replying within 60 days with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line. A different person will review it and respond within 60 days.

SECURITY

We use encryption across our site and donation pages, PCI-compliant payment processing so card data never touches our servers, and access limits so that only staff and authorized volunteers who need donor data can reach it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

CHILDREN

Our site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

ON-AIR PARTICIPATION

If you call in to a live program, your voice and whatever you say may be broadcast, streamed, and kept in our public program archive. We may quote listener comments on air or in the newsletter using first names and general locations only — tell us if you would rather we did not. Contests are governed by their own rules and by FCC recordkeeping requirements.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

Our site links to and embeds content from other services, including social media and our donation platform. Those services collect information under their own policies, which we do not control.

CHANGES

We will update this policy when our practices or the law change. The effective date above tells you when it last changed. If a change meaningfully affects information you have already given us, we will post notice and, where we have your email, tell you before it takes effect.
