Renee Bowser
Host, Unionism Drives Community!
Renee Bowser is a veteran labor leader and community activist who has been a devoted part of the WPFW listening family since the early 1990s. As a dedicated trade unionist, Renee spent her career fighting for workers to have a voice on the job, representing diverse employees in fields ranging from nursing to packinghouse work to secure better conditions and stable futures. Her lifelong commitment to justice has spanned from serving as an anti-discrimination investigator to organizing boycotts against corporations doing business with apartheid South Africa and working in the movement to free political prisoners.
Deeply rooted in local advocacy, Renee has served as a volunteer Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and worked with Empower DC to champion safe, affordable housing and tutor unhoused children. At WPFW, she has been a vital leader for the station, volunteering on the Local Station Board for several years and serving as its chair.
In 2024, Renee brought her expertise to the airwaves as the host of Unionism Drives Community! Through her program, she explores the intertwined lives of the working class and promotes the intentional solidarity needed to advance the status of Black and Brown communities. Beyond her work in the studio, Renee remains active in public service as the Labor Member on the District of Columbia Public Employee Relations Board and continues her community organizing efforts with DC for Democracy.
