Warren "Scooter" Magruder

Host, Don't Forget the Blues

Warren "Scooter" Magruder is a D.C. native and a lifelong lover of radio, R&B, and baseball who brings his passion to the airwaves as the host of Don't Forget the Blues. A veteran of the local music scene, Scooter has been a party street DJ since 1973 and a prominent voice on DMV radio since 1988. He officially joined the WPFW family in 2006 at the age of 58 after being invited by the station's Program Director to share his craft with the community.

On his program, Scooter uses a signature style of storytelling to guide listeners through the history of vintage R&B and the blues. He views his work as a way to honor the remembrance of Black America's original music and show how those roots paved the way for almost every other style of American music we enjoy today. Whether he is spinning records or hosting Community Watch and Comment, his goal is always to provide news you can use and a message of hope. He lives by a simple mantra: let the musical memories set the mood.

Off the air, Scooter is a dedicated community activist. He is deeply involved in social justice causes, including advocating for Palestinian rights, and is committed to mentoring young people in both broadcasting and essential life skills like reading. For Scooter, WPFW is a vital space to keep the truth alive and use the power of music and information to strengthen the community.
