G-Strings

G-Strings has been on WPFW since the station’s first year. Host Tom Cole started at twenty-four as a volunteer engineer on a children’s program and a blues show; after he submitted a proposal for his own program, Denise Oliver gave him a Sunday morning slot and named it. He has hosted and produced it ever since. The show centers stringed instruments, primarily the guitar, to reveal the deep connections between different peoples and cultures. Cole believes music has a universal ability to unite, and that public radio should be a real alternative to the mainstream. He takes his greatest pleasure in introducing listeners to traditions they have never heard.
