House of Soul is built on freestyle selection. Host DJ Lance Reynolds was recruited to the station by Program Director Katea Stitt in 2014, joining a lineup then hosted by James Funk and Arthur McCloud, both of whom went on to programs of their own. Reynolds describes the show as completely freestyle: the direction is decided in the moment, and the set follows the feeling in the room rather than a predetermined running order. The result is a broadcast that rewards listening all the way through, and one that has become one of WPFW’s most reliable gateways for new members.
