Amy Watkins

Amy L. Watkins is a National Board Certified teacher, award-winning children's author, and dedicated literacy advocate who serves as a collective member and host for #UMustLearn on WPFW. A lifelong resident of the DMV, Amy grew up with 89.3 FM as a constant companion, always keeping a button on her car radio programmed to the station.

In her professional life, Amy is the founder of Sadie Bug Publishing LLC and has focused much of her career on supporting multilingual learners. She is passionate about mentoring aspiring authors through community events and her podcast, always seeking to create opportunities for people of all ages to learn and grow. On the airwaves, she finds joy in amplifying the voices of educators and changemakers to spark curiosity and connection. She is guided by the firm belief that everyone has a story worth telling, and every story has the power to teach.

Amy views WPFW as an essential space for thoughtful conversation and diverse perspectives that encourage critical thinking rather than quick reactions. She is particularly rewarded when listeners are inspired by her interviews to pick up a new book or see a community issue from a fresh perspective. Her advice to the WPFW community, especially younger listeners, is to stay curious, ask deep questions, and never underestimate the power of their own stories.
