Ayize Sabater

Lead Host, #UMustLearn

Ayize Sabater is a veteran educational organizer, researcher, and author who has spent over three decades championing community-centered learning and social justice. On WPFW, he serves as the lead host and programmer for #UMustLearn, a liberatory educational program designed to inform, inspire, and ignite the local community into action. Since 2020, he has used this platform to interrogate the educational experience through the lens of equity and school reform, providing a voice for those often overlooked by mainstream media.

Ayize's connection to the station began in his mid-20s, when he supported the WPFW community as both a listener and a local business owner. During that time, his restaurant, Delights of the Garden, became a staple of station life by providing vegetarian food donations to sustain volunteers during pledge drives. His journey from a business supporter to an on-air personality was driven by his firm belief that public media is essential for allowing regular citizens to voice their concerns and advocate for their own advancement.

A globally recognized expert in his field, Ayize is widely known as the "#GodFather of Black Montessori work." His lifelong commitment to educational excellence was notably recognized by former First Lady Michelle Obama for his work with M.O.M.I.E's TLC. His research and community organizing efforts have been featured in major national publications, including the New York Times and Black Enterprise.

Beyond the airwaves, Ayize is a man of deep reflection and resilience who finds inspiration in reading, positive company, and conscious Hip-Hop. He brings a profound sense of empathy to his work, shaped by his personal journey navigating significant life hardships, including the loss of his namesake son to a mental health crisis. Guided by his mantra to "Advance the Culture," Ayize remains dedicated to using the power of the microphone to educate, empower, and strengthen the community he serves.
