Jevon Howard, known to his listeners as DJ Machete, is a veteran programmer who brings the history and heart of Hip Hop to the WPFW airwaves. As the host of Decipher, airing every 4th Saturday, Jevon focuses on Golden Era Hip Hop and the art of the original sample. His program is designed not just to entertain, but to educate, introducing listeners to the source material that built the genre and encouraging them to become fans of the original artists who paved the way.

Jevon's journey with the station began in 2005 as part of the initial team for The Lab Hip Hop Show, which originally aired every Friday. Over his nearly two decades with WPFW, he has remained dedicated to sharing the kind of authentic music that commercial radio often ignores. While he is now a seasoned broadcaster, he fondly remembers the nerves he felt during one of his greatest highlights: the honor of opening for and hosting the legendary Grand Wizard Theodore during a live Friday night broadcast.

Beyond the studio, Jevon serves the DMV community through his professional career in HVAC for a local school district. In his spare time, he is a true student of sound, constantly collecting and listening to records to find the next great discovery for his audience.

Guided by a personal commitment to advance the culture, Jevon encourages the WPFW family to look beyond what is popular or trending. His advice to listeners is to always stay curious and be willing to navigate outside the box to find the profound wisdom and creativity that independent radio has to offer.
