Lady C
Host, The Southern Soul Party
Christal Wooten, known to her listeners as Lady C, is a born-and-raised Washingtonian who brings the grown folk sounds of Southern Soul to the WPFW airwaves. A devoted member of the station family since 2012, she is a familiar and soothing voice for the DMV community.
Christal's journey at WPFW began as a co-host for Southern Soul Rumpin, where she worked alongside the late Doctor Nick for over 11 years. Following his retirement, she was referred to become the new host of the program, which has since evolved into The Southern Soul Party. Through this transition, she has remained dedicated to preserving the legacy of the show while making it her own.
Every Saturday, Lady C curates a high-energy noon day mix designed to get listeners moving, whether they are finishing their afternoon housework or relaxing under a shade tree. Her broadcasts feature a carefully selected blend of old and new school Southern Soul, blues, and R&B. She views the microphone as a tool for connection, speaking to her audience with a warmth and familiarity that makes them feel as though they are right there in the studio with her.
Christal is a firm advocate for authentic expression, guided by the personal mantra: "Everyone deserves to tell their own story." For Lady C, the most rewarding part of her work is the joy she brings to her audience. She finds deep fulfillment in meeting loyal listeners of 20 or 30 years at station events and hearing that her music and humor helped make their day a little brighter.
